The 2007 Stallion Show was held in Leeuwarden, Friesland (Netherlands) on January 12-13, 2007. This event is a highlight of the year as new stallions are selected to go to the final tests in the city of Drachten. The final tests take about 6 weeks and occur in the spring for four year old (or older) stallions, and in the fall for the young three year olds. Stallions who make it through Drachten will be approved for breeding in 2008. Making it to Drachten is quite an achievement all to itself. This year approximately 500 stallions competed for the privilege of going to Drachten. At the Stallion Show this was narrowed down to only 27 . Checkerboard Farms is very proud to congratulate two breeders in particular for having stallions make it to Drachten in 2007.(NOTE: all photos are courtesy of Cally Matherly. Please visit her site at www.callyspictures.com) - The VanderPloegs of Michigan have a Wander son, Maurice P (Wander 352 x Tsjerk 328) heading to Drachten. The VanderPloegs are also the breeders and owners of Wander son Doaitsen 420, one of the top breeding stallions in the Netherlands. Below are some photos of Maurice P.
- RA Brendel of Duistervoordseweg has a stallion out of a Wander dam, Meindert (Wikke 404 x Wander 352) heading to Drachten. The stallion's breeder is JH Rietfeld of Heistraat. Below are some photos of Meindert. This Wikke x Wander cross seems to be a good one. Another Wikke x Wander stallion made it to the third round of competition, but did not make it to Drachten.
Congratulations to all the fine stallions as well as their owners and breeders.
